Find your wood
A starting point, not a rule. Wood looks different in your light, so we always send full-size samples.
Five rules for picking wood.
Start with the light
Dark wood needs lamps and windows. Light wood opens up a small room.
Pick one dominant tone
Mix colors in a wall, but let one lead.
Match the room's job
Floors and tops need harder, tighter wood than a wall.
Hold a sample
Color changes with your light, so judge a full-size board.
Buy from one lot
Order everything for a project at once so colors match.

Is reclaimed wood the same as barn wood?
Barn wood is one kind of reclaimed wood. Reclaimed also includes heart pine and oak from old floors, beams from mills and warehouses, chestnut from old farm buildings and timbers from other structures that have been taken apart and given a second life.
Can I see samples before I buy?
Yes. Full-size sample boards are the best way to judge color, because old wood looks different in every light. Our design and sample service puts several tones in your hands, and you can try looks in the Plank Studio first.
Where does the wood come from?
Old barns, tobacco sheds, mills and other buildings, mostly in Tennessee and the surrounding states, taken apart by hand so the boards survive. Each lot looks different, which is why we send full-size samples before you buy.
