The overview

What it is, and why it matters.

Shiplap is everywhere, but most of it is new wood treated to look old. Reclaimed shiplap starts with old boards, so the patina, color shifts and nail holes are real. A milled lap or tongue-and-groove edge gives the installation tight seams and flat faces without losing that history.

We mill reclaimed boards into shiplap and tongue-and-groove, with the face left aged or skip-planed. Nashville customers use it for kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms and mudrooms, where they want farmhouse character with cleaner lines than rough boards allow.

Good questions

Shiplap and Paneling: common questions

Is reclaimed shiplap good for bathrooms?

It can work in dry areas of a bathroom and with sealing. We do not recommend it inside shower walls, and we explain how to seal and where to avoid it.

What is the difference between shiplap and tongue-and-groove?

Shiplap has overlapping rabbeted edges with a small gap line. Tongue-and-groove has a tongue that fits a groove for a tighter, flatter surface.
