How much does reclaimed wood cost?
Commonly published prices run roughly $5 to $15 per square foot for barn wood wall boards and about $8 to $20 per square foot for reclaimed flooring material, with beams, mantels and tables priced by size and species. Our Board Footage Calculator gives a first planning range, and a photo or a sample visit gets you a written quote.
Is reclaimed wood the same as barn wood?
Barn wood is one kind of reclaimed wood. Reclaimed also includes heart pine and oak from old floors, beams from mills and warehouses, chestnut from old farm buildings and timbers from other structures that have been taken apart and given a second life.
Where does the wood come from?
Old barns, tobacco sheds, mills and other buildings, mostly in Tennessee and the surrounding states, taken apart by hand so the boards survive. Each lot looks different, which is why we send full-size samples before you buy.
Is reclaimed wood safe to cut and install?
Boards are de-nailed, metal-scanned and dried before they are sold, which makes them much safer to cut and stable indoors. Old paint can contain lead in buildings from before 1978, so ask us about any painted board and never dry sand it.
How do I know how much wood to order?
Measure the width and height of each surface, multiply for square feet, subtract large openings and add waste: about 10 percent for straight runs and 15 to 20 percent for random widths, character grade or diagonal layouts. The calculator does the math and shows boards, bundles and board feet.
Can I see samples before I buy?
Yes. Full-size sample boards are the best way to judge color, because old wood looks different in every light. Our design and sample service puts several tones in your hands, and you can try looks in the Plank Studio first.
How do I seal and care for reclaimed wood?
Walls often need only a matte clear sealer or nothing at all. Floors, counters and tables need a harder finish. Dust walls with a soft brush, clean tops with a barely damp cloth, keep indoor humidity steady and always test a finish on a spare board first.
Can you cut boards to size or mill custom profiles?
Yes. We cut to width and length, plane or skip-plane, tongue-and-groove and mill trim, shiplap, treads and flooring, so boards arrive ready to install.
Can reclaimed wood be used outdoors?
Some of it can. Dense species and well-detailed fences, pergolas, gates and porch ceilings last for years, while softer or very thin boards belong indoors. Tell us where the wood is going and we will point you to the right boards.
What is the difference between hand-hewn, sawn and faux beams?
Hand-hewn beams were shaped with an axe or adze and show scalloped tool marks. Sawn timbers have straight saw marks and are more uniform. Faux or box beams are hollow and light, made from reclaimed boards. Structural beams need a builder or engineer to approve the size.
Do you work with builders, designers and restaurants?
Yes. Trade accounts, matched lots, cut-to-size orders and scheduled deliveries make it easier for contractors, designers and hospitality projects to order and install on time.
Do you deliver, and where?
We deliver across 28 Middle Tennessee cities, from Franklin, Murfreesboro and Brentwood to Hendersonville, Gallatin, Lebanon, Dickson and Columbia. If your town is not listed, call 615-357-7797 and we will confirm.
How do I get a quote?
Fill in the form on any page, or call or text 615-357-7797 with photos and measurements. For many projects we can give a range right away and a written price after a quick review.
Do you install reclaimed wood, or only supply it?
Both. You can buy the wood and have your own builder install it, or ask about our professional installation, which includes a site visit, layout, cutting, fastening and cleanup for homes and businesses.
Do you sell live edge slabs and other hardwoods?
Yes. Along with reclaimed wood we supply live edge slabs and select hardwoods such as oak, walnut, cherry and maple, rough or milled to size.
